Amazing book, I read it aloud to my baby ...

Amazing book, I read it aloud to my baby boomer mother and father and they thought it was spot on. This Author really knows how to write , the personal experiences blended perfectly with history and and eye opening facts. I have tremendous respect for his story, could really relate to his voice and feel inspired myself now just from having read it. I highly recommend this book to anyone , as I feel the issues covered in it are going to be paramount in the future and you won't find a better presentation of them then the ones in this book

Do you have what: it takes?

Langness is good about using his scuffles with Muslims for material that illustrates the poor state of masculinity of the western European man. I doubt eastern Europe has degenerated so far, as communism seems to have protected them in some way.
Hopefully it's only part of a historical cycle and Europe will reinvigorate itself, with the help of Islamic pressure but only after a trial of blood.

Cleverly moving from scuffles to astute observations

In a sense, a weird book, with a twist. The autor describes the process of exploring his being Man, in an age where men are supposed to be effeminate, suppressing their every primal urge. He does this by looking for fights. Not in the sense that he attacks a person, but rather by not backing down. He gets provoked and defends himself instead of lying down and taking a beating, or begging for his life, or simply running off. None of that, just taking a stand. He describes feeling truly alive after such encounters, even though they were not quite all victories. On the contrary, one fight he took a serious beating. The author tested his mettle and found it.

Very unexpectedly the author, American by birth, European in spirit, also displays a very keen eye for observation and envisioning. He describes Europe's drive towards cultural disintegration by importing large groups of people that refuse to be integrated, that refuse to share in maintaining the state as we know it. He observes how this group aggressively drives for dominance. He names the beast as well: Islam. He also writes down his observations on the kind and friendly European behaviour, bereft of all sense of defending itself against the onslaught that is going on, unknowing as to what is really happening, preferring not to see.

A dark picture is painted for the future of Europe, one that has been described in the Koran as the prophet offered his enemies a number of choices; convert, submit or die. Can Europe reinvent its moral fibre and stand up to the dangers it is facing? Can its people shake loose its nihilistic and unreal outlooks on life? Can it survive the civil war that is to come?

An easy-to-read book, pleasantly written, on a dark and unpleasant subject. If you are used to politically correct works and by necessity feel the urge to expand your horizon beyond the safe and approved, give it a go.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. This is a very *unique* book in terms of contents and approach. Unlike most other books in the area of wireless communications, its approach is rather from electromagnetic theories (or physics), which is particularly interesting. Also, noise is explained in detail based on antenna temperature. Chapters 6 and 7 are also interesting. For example, the concept of LOS horizon should be useful in the research for long-range communications. Finally, as in this book, it is always good to have examples at the end of each chapter. ... this book might be possibly considered as�supplemental material for teaching certain courses ... . Also, it is an excellent monograph for researchers in the area of wireless communications.

What is there to like in "Physical Principles of Wireless Communications"? A lot!

The preface paints the landscape: "Wireless communications is based on the launching, propagation, and detection of electromagnetic waves usually at radio or microwave frequencies." By the end of the book, you'll have covered short-range, medium range and long-range forms of wireless communication. You'll start with the physical principles, gain insight into the supporting theory and equations, and learn examples of how this works in real world applications.

The author begins with a brief but fascinating tour of the history with "An Introduction to Modern Wireless Communications." The chapter is beautifully written and nicely laid out with photos and graphics. The author includes stories of some of the great early physicists and their experiments that led to modern day technology. The breakthroughs of people like Marconi are brought to life in a very memorable way. (Marconi's entrepreneurial inventions enabled shore to ship communications and led to the unanticipated discovery of the ionosphere.) Fascinating background ....

Next, Dr. Granatstein winds his way through a noisy century of scientific and engineering discoveries in radio. You quickly catch up with today's wireless technologies in cell phones, local area networks and satellite communication systems all have grown out of these fundamental principles.

Chapters 3 and 4 present mutually-reinforcing chapters on "Antennas" and "Antenna Arrays". I always wondered how antennas worked - this explains it well. Chapter 5, "Radio Frequency (RF) Wave Propagation" helps you think about propagation challenges - "reflection, refraction, absorption, multipath phase interference and diffraction." These are real world problems for deployments.

By the time you reach chapter 7, you'll start to realize the level of math required to master this subject - this chapter is packed with all sorts of equations.

This book explains the basics of how signals are created, transmitted, and received. But it rapidly accelerates into more advanced territory. The equations of electromagnetic radiation will challenge even the most determined. On the other hand, the figures and graphics are crystal clear and easily accessible to even the most casual reader.

In addition to being full of theory, this book is well populated with practical descriptions of how theory plays out in practice. Simple diagrams convey common material. Figures in chapter 5 depict the basic geometries of waves propagation. Graphics in chapter 6 nicely and simply describe the operation of wireless microwave bridges.

The author is a true expert on his subject. He has a Ph.D in electrical engineering and held positions at Bell Labs, the Naval Research Lab, and conducted decades of research and teaching in a university setting. He has studied, researched, practiced, taught, and now written about the subject. This is as authoritative as an author can be.

The text itself emerged from teaching material to senior EE students, grad students, and engineers working in communication companies. In less than 250 pages of text, the author conveys an important body of knowledge that has been collected over roughly the past 150 years. This book could easily be used in a classroom setting, as a main text or supplemental reading.

At last the Horseclans return

Ok, first off, you either like the Horseclans or you don't. It's a bit extreme to state it that way; but, basically it's true. Over the years on different forums begging for these to be republished I've found this to be true. For me, I like them or at least the first 12 or so in the series! This was the first Horseclans novel I read back in 1982, I was 15 and beginning to feel my way towards what I liked and didn't like. Basically this opened the fantasy or "swords" genres for me. In the forward of one of these books the author put it best when he stated, this is for those who want to pull three feet of steel and charge. Or least some variation of that! First off, some suspension of belief is necessary, not a lot, afterall, EVERY fantasy series requires this. In this case the setting is about 600 years in the future in a changed world with the occasional "long lived" individual popping up and various degrees of telepathy allowing communication with horses, prarie cats and even some sealife. There has been huge population migrations across oceans with resulting cultural changes and all occurs in what is the former North American east coast. This area has been reshaped by a combination of WWIII (always a good starting point for 70's/80's novels), disease, climate change and massive earthquakes causing significant topgraphical and shoreline changes. Essentially civilization stepped back to the Dark Ages but has climbed back to the Middle Ages leaving North America a patchwork of small states, duchy's, barony's and county's dominated by one large Confederation. This Confederation, currently occupying most of the area from Maryland to Georgia and west to the Smokie's and Applachians. It was initially established by a group of migrating nomads from the Great Plains, called oddly enough, the Horseclans. This novel starts 150 odd years after that migration and at the start of a rebellion.

This is the 3rd novel, in published order if not timeline and while the previous two books describe the migration and aftermath, the following books will continue the Great Rebellion storyline and then start to back fill with novels about the migration and early formation of the Horseclans. This novel introduces Bili of Morghun and to a lesser degree Gero's a character I could identify with. While this book can be considered standalone assuming you catch the clues; for some it may be better if you have read either the first or second of the series. Eventually sufficient of the back story is added to flesh out the other main characters as they are revealed. If you prefer to have prior understanding then you should read The Coming of the Horseclans (for some reason only available on the publishers website) and/or Swords of the Horseclans (available on Kindle from Amazon or at the publishers website). The good thing, is the 4th book and one my real favorites in the series is "Coming Soon" or at least is shown as such with the publisher.

Overall, it is not great literature, BUT, you do have to pay attention, the author has his characters talking in the current version of Merhikan, nor is everything in the story handed to you, you do have to pay attention and the author assumed you had some understanding of geography. I personally like this approach, couple this with a unique storyline, constant action, the lack of political correctness and the ability to visualize pulling that 3 feet of Sacred Steel and charging those Dirtmen all make this novel and this series enjoyable to me. Just my lengthy opinion though!

sad, sad, sad that I bought all 18 books...

The first six books in this series are fairly decent installments of this series, after that it drifts off topic. There is some of it already here, but mostly the author stays in the one time frame which helps a lot. The entire thing is fighting, gore, blood and guts, torture, and excitement - but he at least has a relevant focus for the plot and tries to maintain that focus. I am ok with the blood and fighting - it can be a nice change from other sorts of novels - but there is only so much I want without a decent plot to back it up and characters that are interesting.
Still, even at this point it is obvious he is seriously homophobic, which in his time was not as much of an issue as it would be now. However, for someone who obviously dislikes male on male (or female on female) sex, he sure does spend a lot of time talking about how horrible it is. Technically, his character is against pedophilia, but the author fails to distinguish between the two actions.
Not to mention that his main character keeps mentioning how much he regrets that he had to shape his people into living as they do since he feels bad about all the killing, just about the time he kills someone or praises someone for managing to do the one thing that would keep him from having to kill them…
I really wish someone would take this story idea and write it well, because I love the idea as a whole – too bad this writer didn’t manage to follow through.

Jordan Zimmerman is the founder and chairman of Zimmerman Advertising, a multi-billion dollar firm headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. His retail powerhouse is ranked the fourteenth largest in the world. A graduate of the University of South Florida, Jordan resides in Boca Raton and the Hamptons with his family.

Michael Long is an author and speechwriter who is also an award-winning playwright and screenwriter. Educated as a physicist, he teaches writing at Georgetown University.

Ad Agency Owners Will Hate This Book But Prospective Clients Will Love It

I volunteered to read and write a review of Zimmerman’s book, Leading Fearlessly. After I read it, my first thought was, agency owners are going to hate this book. They’ll never read it. But, they’re going to be missing some great information that will help them increase their own new business.

Because of his book, I have a greater appreciation for Zimmerman. I’ll even admit that I’ve become a huge fan. In all of my years in advertising, working with hundreds of agency owners, I’ve never met any owner as actively engaged with their clients’ business as Zimmerman has been.

As a result of reading this book, I’ve completely re-evaluated and revised how I work with my own clients.

I first met Zimmerman when we were both speaking at Mirren, the premiere agency new business conference held annually in New York. There were over 400-agencies represented at the conference. Zimmerman provided one of the keynote sessions.

My perception from attending the session was that most of his agency audience totally disregarded his speech because of his bravado, attitude. But they completely missed his valuable insights.

He was giving away rich details on how he was able to grow the agency he founded in a seedy strip mall, to into the 14th-largest independent agency in the country.

This seems to be the norm of Zimmerman’s relationship with many of those within the advertising industry.

Here are some of the reasons why many agency owners and industry insiders don’t like him:

1. He doesn’t look like a normal agency owner. Jordan Zimmerman looks more like a professional body builder than a brand builder.

2. He doesn’t talk like the average agency owner. Zimmerman uses words similar to other agency owners such as results-driven, accountability, proprietary process, metrics, marketing partner, ROI, metrics-driven or profitability. But for Zimmerman it isn’t mere “agency speak.” He actually applies them in a way that few agency owners do because he is so insanely focused on the success of his clients.

3. He doesn’t think like the typical agency owner. Agency owners and insiders may mock Zimmerman, but his clients and prospective clients don’t. Because Zimmerman thinks differently. He understands and is committed to their bottom line.

4. He doesn’t act like the typical agency owner. John Schnatter, former CEO of Papa John’s Pizza, a Zimmernan client, said, “The reason Jordan is successful is because he’s abnormal. Being high-discipline and high-integrity are fundamental in his beliefs. … His sense of urgency is unequivocal.”

Living Fearlessly is stated to be Zimmerman’s personal guide to success. It is also much more than that. The book outlines his path to success in building one of the most client-focused agencies in the world. But, more importantly to him, it provides examples of the success that he has helped to create for his clients.

If I were a prospective client having read the book, I would come away wanting an agency CEO just like Zimmerman to be my marketing partner. Someone who would be as focused and as passionate about my company’s success as I would be.

If you’re tired of your own agency’s bulls***, this book is certainly worth the read.

I expected more from this book.....more on strategies he used to build Zimmerman. Something that would help someone who would like to build a large reputable agency ( in any industry) like his.

Will this book transform your life and help you find success through the art of “leading fearlessly” as it claims, or will it leave you a little cold, a little unsure and quite neutral?

This may be one of those books that you either get an instant connection to or you just never warm to: the story itself should be interesting as it is written by an entrepreneur who founded and developed a business that became one of the world’s largest ad agencies – no simple feat!

It may just come down to style and approach. The book promises to be a “pull-no-punches guide to success” that offers inspiration and motivation, showing you how “success goes only to those who do whatever it takes - and who relentlessly pursue the goal, but never rest in the glory.” Maybe something was lost in translation, as it felt a little too easy to put down and an uphill struggle to fight through to pick out the nuggets that undoubtedly are there.

Yes, after abandoning the book a few times and picking it up again (as an obligation to the reader) there are some interesting points, takeaway elements and good observations noted during a random sampling. For this reviewer the style just grated, it was divisive and worked against the book’s interests; yet another reader may have a totally different perspective and really “get it”. Having the book in your hands for a couple of minutes will be the answer to the “like” or “dislike” conundrum.

If you can get on with it, it has a lot of potential. If you can’t, you will probably feel annoyed at throwing away your money, as the book remains unread, unloved and perhaps the exploitable information unexploited.
