About the Author
Having been chemically sensitive his whole life,Walt Bader is intimately aware of the chemical challenges that bombard us on a daily basis. Int roduct ion ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT CHANGES we can make to reduce our exposure to toxins and improve our overall health is to make modifications in the one location where we spend roughly one-third of our lives: our bedroom. A healthy sleeping environment will give your body a chance to recover from the toxins and stress that it is exposed to throughout the day. Given the fact that we have almost exclusive control over the furnishings, equipment, and attire we place in and near our bedrooms, it is up to us to safeguard our health by making this room as healthy and environmentally safe as possible. This book will give you the information you need to improve the health and safety of your bedroom. Our bodies are under constant attack throughout the day from germs, toxins, pollutants, and other harmful substances. While we may try our best to minimize exposure to these pollutants, it is a daunting challenge. And the question remains…how great an assault can our bodies take from the vile concoctions mixed in with our food, cosmetics, work environment, and household products, before they collapse? This is a question that no one can answer precisely, but it stands to reason that the human immune system has its limits. This book gives a good picture of what is inside mattresses and other bedding and bedroom items. I had pretty much decided on an OMI organic mattress before purchasing the book. And the book confirmed my decision.

Health risks of sleeping on a chemical mattress

Recently a friend gave me the book, "Sleep Safe in a Toxic World" by Walter Bader. She knew I was looking for a mattress for my three-year-old son. I am so glad I read this book, as I had no idea about the health risks of mattresses made with synthetic, non organic materials. I also was disappointed to learn that the mattress I was originally considering purchasing contained flame-retardants with known carcinogens. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to educate themselves about the health risks of sleeping on a chemical mattress. It's an easy, worthwhile read, filled with really important information!

Easy read. Great reference book for a less toxic life.

I am amazed that such a scientific, fact-filled book is also so easy to read! It's appalling how toxic mattresses can be and the seemingly endless "greenwashing" is no help. "Sleep Safe in a Toxic World" has not only boosted my knowledge but my confidence as well, I know now what questions to ask and which verifications are legitimate. This is my new favorite reference book in my effort to lead a less toxic life for my family and myself.
